The Treatment of Women in the Middle East

Why I chose this site

The faith trust institute website focuses on global issues such as sexual and domestic violence. The site provides materials and different tools for addressing issues related to abuse, whether they stem from cultural or religious reasons. I chose the faithtrustinstitute website because of the many links the site provides for those who wish to learn more about Muslim culture. I also chose this site because it judiciously quotes the Quran; I think that was a very important aspect to include in their site because the Quran influences Islamic life. The site addresses Domestic and sexual violence, issues concerning child abuse, how to handle abusive relationships and what steps couples need to take if they are divorcing and their marriage produced children, which it has in nearly all marriages of Muslim culture. It also provides articles on hot button issues such as human trafficking, various types of violence, the ethics of clergymen, and how to maintain healthy relationships .Users of the site can utilize Marie’s blog for posts that give practical advice concerning these issues. The site also offers training sessions for those who wish to learn more about how to handle these issues. The site also gives people an opportunity to help these victims, whether through a financial donation, hosting a gathering where a representative from faith trust institute will come to speak, donating items considered essential for their training programs, or training those interested in becoming a faith trust institute team member.

I chose to utilize this article from The Week magazine, published this past August so it is still a relatively recent posting about life for women in the Middle East, specifically Saudi Arabia, which has extreme laws when it comes to women.  To learn more about this article, visit http://www.theweek.co.uk/60339/eleven-things-women-in-saudi-arabia-cannot-do
